Unhappy access key not detected

I have a 2018 Impreza Sport. Over the past few days I have been having issues with my access keys. The first issue was having a hard time un-locking the doors, next it was having issues starting the car and finally I got this error "access key not detected". I was trying to get into the car and the access key did not do anything, then the interior lights came on and I tried to use the emergency key, un-locked the drivers door and the alarm went off. I had to disconnect the battery. I don't want to connect the battery since it late at night.

I have read in other Subaru Forums that they had to have the car towed to the dealership to have it looked at.

Has anyone had this problem and is there a DYI fix to this?

Thanks

Stuart

Welcome to the forum!

Has this happened with both normal keys? If not, one may work fine and the other may have a low battery. I am assuming the "emergency" key is the valet key and entering with that may set off your alarm (if it is activated).

If the problem affects both keys, then it may be the car's receiver, which still should be under warranty for a 2018. If you can get it started with the physical key and everything seems OK, you should be able to drive it to the dealership.

And honestly, if you set off the alarm in front of the showroom, you will get quick service!

Good luck and let us know what you find!

Both the steering wheel and the transmission were locked. The tow driver was able to get the car into neutral and had to put the car onto a dolly. I won't know anything for a few days. I was hoping for a DYI fix.

Well got the car back on Tuesday. The BATTERY was DEAD. Charged the battery and all systems are back to normal.
