Thumbs up STI style quad tip muffler delete. lots of pics

hey guys its been a long time since i have posted . been really busy

the wife and i really like the way the old impreza wrx wagon had quad tips . i have been waiting for some company to offer a direct bolt in. unfortunately our non turbo wagons get no love.

so i have an old big welder i received as payment for a job. well i decided to "LEARN to TIG WELD" lol thank you YOUTUBE.
this is my very first big welding job . so guys and girls I'm not posting to be judge on my amateur welding skills .lol just posting my overall exhaust . I'm happy with the way it came out

i went on offer up and found a used WRX STI stock muffler $40.

top is the stock 2017 impreza muffler bottom is the STI muffler
yes it looks like it would just bolt in. unfortunately the flange is clocked different . also the hangers face the wrong direction . but any muffler shop can quickly correct that if you want the stock muffler. the stock wrx muffler is heavy

i went to see how it would look under the wagon. using my floor jack to mock it up

so i made a jig to make it easier to make my own direct bolt in. i ordered some 304 stainless steel bends , flange , hangers , and tips
.

ran into the issue that i couldn't find a very tight bend . so i had to make my own.

it was a slow process . learning to tig weld and making everything . tons of measuring and installing it dozens of times to make sure it is where it needs to be before welding.

part 2 of this post to come . i have reached my limit on how many pictures i can post

I found these two Japanese websites a while ago. Don't know how legit either of them are.

i don't know why the picture loaded upside down

it bolts right up to the stock pipe and uses the stock location hangers.

i know you guys want to know how the wagon sounds.

well i did remove the muffler and ran it with out one to get an overall feel for it. well it sounds way better with the muffler delete than with no muffler. maybe the tips and dual pipe change the sound?

it has a very deep tone . you totally get the boxter engine rumble. its not for the people that want a quite ride . lol

i love the sound but it is loud.

i did make a video . it helps if you have headphones or nice speakers the phone speakers don't really show the deep rumble.

i haven't taken a video of reving the engine or driving it yet.
if you guys are interested in hearing that let me know . i will make a video of that and load it.

thanks for checking out my post.

That sounds MUCH better than the other quad tip straight pipe that’s been posted on here. I assume do to the larger diameter of the pipe and house you routed it.

For sure something to be proud of.

Great job on the fabrication and teaching yourself a new skill! Your welds look good from here! I'm not a big fan of how the tips are sitting below the rear valance, but it looks like you did a great job of getting them where YOU wanted them, which is all that matters. STI does make an exhaust for our cars, but it's expensive. Here's a sound clip and pic installed on my car for reference:

Syms is very reliable. Ive spoken to a few people from japan that has the quad from them. They sound and look very nice. Also good job on the weld you have done!

Awesome job! I also tried to put 2014 sti hatch exhaust on the car, along with the entire cat back exhaust system and gave up on doing it myself. A local muffler shop charged me 150 and put the entire thing on for me. Sounds good, there is no drone whatsoever, and you can hear it when you get on it. The exhaust is a very very tiny bit crooked and could be remedied by cutting something under the rear bumper, but I chose not to. You can't tell unless you look at the back from a dead-on angle and look for imperfections. I'll post pictures later.
