So since January of this year, my car has had a dead battery 3 times for no reason. Totally random. The first time a friend jumped the car and 2 days later I took it in for scheduled maintenance and indicated what happened and told the 'service advisor' this wasn't acceptable with a vehicle barely a year old.
Happened again...another jump. Then last week it happened a third time. Called AAA this time. Guy tested the battery and it was not charging. He indicated that Subarus have issues and we talked about this for a while. Took it to the dealership (Tucson, AZ) today...was condescended to as is typical. Told the 'advisor' that we both know there is an issue with battery drainage and a 2020 filed class action lawsuit that is being settled and doesn't include 2021 and 2022 or new. I told him that testing the battery wasn't going to be the big thing (after he said that is all they would do), that it was diagnosing the systems to see why the battery was draining. He really just ignored my thoughts.
Two hours later he calls me (they gave me a loaner) and said that they tested the battery and 'it was perfect'...but then decided to test it an hour later to be sure and it was dead. So they put in a new battery. Now if they did the actual diagnostic work and checked for codes and anything else (the lawsuit indicates this is a software issue and as part of the settlement Subaru agrees that from 2021 forward it is fixed and will not happen again) then I'll feel a bit more optimistic...but I suspect they only changed the battery.
Next, I called the LEAD ATTORNEY of the class action and we had a 20 minute conversation about this. He said he's not yet heard from folks with 2021 and newer Subarus that are having the exact same issue that is supposed to be fixed. He told me to send him the paperwork from the dealership, to ask a couple of specific questions and he'd research it further and see if this is going to be a continuing issue.
I would be interested if others with 2021 or new are having issues. If so, reach out to me and I'll send you his information, or you can GOOGLE the lawsuit. Thankyou.
