I just removed it after experiencing suspiciously low gas mileage at work, there are a few other suspects, but until I collect more data I'm going to play it safe. You were right though, it isn't nearly as much of a pain once you know the process.
Any chance you plugged it in to the wrong hose lines? Very easy to get them mixed up. I know a friend who mixed them up who definitely wasn't me.

No I got them right, that was the first thing I suspected.

In all honesty it was probably the extra load I was carrying that night, and it just caught me off guard because the prior servicing had induced a change in my refueling cycle that I forgot to account for.

That said I haven't 100% confirmed that yet, I'm sort of leaning toward just not using it until after the warranty expires, cheaper to pay for an IM cleaning once than have to pay out of pocket to replace...anything on this car.

Are we even sure that the engine cares about the extra oil? That's all we've seen it collect so far and it seems weird that the engine wouldn't be able to handle that ad-infinitum.

Also its curious that the orientation would matter on the model I got (Same as Peaty's, against my financial judgement). It doesn't seem to include a copper filter like some of the other models i've seen online and its just as easy to blow through one way as the other.

Well, the can went on the morning of the fourth, it's the end of the month, and I had at least as much oil as Peaty collected in his image earlier in the thread, so it's working - that's oil that's not going into the intake.

You prompted me to look at mine again. Got about the same amount as last time I checked. I'm glad I installed this now, it's doing what it's supposed to do. I wasn't able to unscrew the can without the help of a strap wrench. It was tighter than I expected.

I checked mine this morning. After putting on approx. 3k miles since oil change, my car was about 1/2 qt (16 oz) low on oil. Catch can hasn't been installed for all of that, but is currently has about 3oz of collected oil. I'm very happy this thread poked me into installing one. I don't love the supplied mount bracket though. May fab one that I like better.

I found I had similar results, gathering a fair amount of oil in my catch can, and about a half quart down at 3k. I feel the same, very happy I stumbled across this thread.

Wow 3 oz, that seems like a lot ,that's like 85 grams. More than I have seen.

I guess my volume estimation isn't very accurate. I measure 22ml (0.74oz) of oil collected.

How high can these cans fill before its recommended to empty them anyway? I've emptied mine every 3 weeks since installation, the little plug at the bottom is submerged by that point but the can itself is nowhere near full.

My concern with height would be if it's too full, the oil could get sucked into the hose the feeds the intake as a large amount. That's probably unlikely if it's 25% full or less. I'm just thinking about the sloshing up the sides of the can during agressive turns.

My Amazon cheapie has a baffle inside to help prevent said oil going where it shouldn't, and I can't imagine it getting that full, mine hasn't made more than an 1/8 inch in depth between changes.

The ADD W1 has a baffle too. I just wouldn't purposely let it get high enough for the baffle to matter.

I would like to take that comment back. I just changed my oil, a little past due, just under 7k, and the can was full. I plan to install a valve on the bottom next - as I had to unbolt it to get it to loosen so I could drain. I find it a little concerning that it completely filled with oil. I'll be monitoring that a little more closely going forward.

Wow! I've been checking mine every so often. Mine has a dip stick and it's barely registering on it. Granted I haven't driven very far lately but I figured with the cold weather it would get more condensation than anything else.

I've been driving to work a lot lately. I have some new equipment I had to get running. I also had to take a few longish trips so I decided to check the catch can today. I thought there would be only a little so I put a paper towel under the valve and cracked it a little. Well that was a mistake. There was a lot more in there than I anticipated. I got a bunch of oil on the top of the motor . My fault, I should have hooked up a hose or gotten a cup or something. I can't say exactly how much was in there but my guess would be about a third full. I unscrewed the can and poured the rest out. I also cleaned up the oil and washed the area down with some brake cleaner. I'm surprised how much in in there. I expected some but no nearly this much. It just looked like clean oil, same as in my pics above. I did check with the little dip stick it has but for some reason it mustn't be registering properly. The dip stick made it seem like there wasn't a lot in there. Now that it's cold I'm going to drain it more often and use a hose on the valve. Removing it is more of a PITA than I remember.

I checked mine after reading this, and it had the same miniscule amount that I would visually overestimate to be a couple of ounces but is really less than 1oz. I think spilled oil is especially hard to estimate quantity because of the shock of how much area it's covering and making a mess of.

Agreed, a little oil goes a very long way. Regardless, I'm glad I put in the catch can. I really don't want any going in the intake although we all know that the catch can won't get 100% I think it gets the majority.

I just checked mine again after my last surprise at my oil change. so 1300 miles had gone by, I was about half full. It's a bear to get the can off the way I have it mounted, so this is becoming an inconvenience. I just ordered a valve for the bottom of my can (should be an east install - 1/4 npt, and I already have a tap) - I'll run a short hose from the valve and keep checking it every 1000 miles or so. I can't help but wonder if Mike's tune is contributing, no complaints, if this is the only downside, I'll take it. Looking inside the muffler - it does appear to be running rich.

I wanted to post my 12k Mile service. I installed my Can around 2k miles on the odometer. I have not emptied it until today after it's 12k mile service at the dealer ship. this might open all your guys eyes and realize how important you might need one of these cans.

Pictures speak 1,000 words this is about 10k miles on at Brand new 2020 Imp sport.

It's been maybe three months since I've checked my CC. I'd have to check but I haven't been driving a tone. I only go into work a few times a week. It was over the winter and really cold, this time the fluid seems different, a little more dirty maybe? I don't want to go all Howard Hughes but maybe I should save the some for a comparison to the next time. I did get an oil analysis done last oil change and everything was fine. There is always a lot more oil than I expected. Here is a quick video, hope it works:
