Anybody know if there is a setting by computer/mechanic, or other trick to force
the car doors to auto lock when you drive off or reach a certain speed?

Dealer said you can't change this behavior. I understand why you'd not want the
car to auto-unlock when you turn off engine, but locking would be a safety+ thing
I'd think....

What about seatbelt chime, any way to minimize/change that?

That seems really odd. I feel like every car I've ever owned or been in has always had this feature.

Yep, that was exactly my thought. A non-mechanic person at the dealership said this is by design.
I have to talk with a mechanic about this, not sure we believe him, do we?

Yes, so by design, we want to give you the opportunity to quickly jump out of the moving car
in case you need to get out in a hurry...don't want those pesky locks to get in your way. :grin2:

I have been driving around for a week now with the door always unlocked since I am so used
to the auto locking.

Yeah most vehicles these days as soon as you shift to "D" or reach a certain speed they auto-lock but not this vehicle. I just made it a habit to lock the doors as soon as I get inside but would be better if they would auto-lock like you mentioned.

Dealer tells me there is no way to turn off the seatbelt chime other them temporarily.
So they can turn it of when working on the car, but resets at the next start.

Service mgr also claimed there were a bunch of settings they could see, but
were locked out? So no luck with that... He suggested I check the Subaru
forums for the major answer (no seriously!)...

Does the seat belt chime off stay after restarting the car?

Your seatbelt stop chime trick worked like a charm. Now why couldn't two separate dealers
tell me that? One told me they had to escalate to the regional level - heard nothing.

That trick is all over YouTube and other Subaru forums of course, and this is exactly the
way I wanted it to work.

Of course door auto-locking on drive off isn't possible, but now at least I know that too.

A few months ago I asked this same very question on another forum, referencing my '06 Focus and '05 Corolla as having it. The answer I got was more or less "for the price you get other great things in the car, get over it". So....I guess.

Kinda off topic but the seat belt chime can be disabled using the same old method as older Subarus. Don't start the car, turn car to accessories, then insert drivers side seat belt in and out 20 times within 30 seconds. Turn everything off then start the car up. Worked for me :)
works on the Crosstrek too...and thank you for the tip!

I've never felt the need to have my doors lock while driving, but it seems like a pretty common option! Weird they don't have it.

And I can't wait to shut off the seat belt chime! :)

this method worked on my Crosstrek but I cannot get it to work on my Wife's Impreza at all. I have tried it 4 times and still no...any ideas???

we actually do wear it, but when we turn into our neighborhood and are close to our house i take it off so i can jump out quickly and check the mailbox. we don't ride down the road with it off at all. i used to never wear my seatbelt, but after getting several tickets it's just easier to put it on. i just don't like the chime...

auto-lock is not available. According to my service guy, it's because of Subaru's "Outdoor life style" target demographics, they don't want you lock yourself out when you're outdoors. I don't have any stats but I would bet that the majority of Subaru owners rarely go outdoors with their cars.

I live in Los Angeles, and I had several incidents in which creeps tried to open my car doors when I stopped at traffic lights. I have small kids - not the funnest experience. Being used to having doors locked on all the cars I had so far, I'm worried about this.
