I just bought a 2019 Impreza sport wagon, and am having a block heater installed. In the past, I've learned that there are really 2 types of block heaters; one which you leave on all night, and the other which draws a lot of current, and you only run for an hour or so before starting the car. Which is the Subaru dealership version, and how many amps does it draw?

Any style of block heater which is left plugged-in will make your electric bill go thru the roof and burn out prematurely.... Use a heavy-duty timer!

I had the dealer install a block heater when I bought this car last November. I have a timer that is rater (I think) at 1500w and had it come on 3 hours or so before I needed to drive the car. This block heater must be a lower output than the factory block heater I had in my old Accord; that one would be throwing heat in a couple of minutes/a few blocks of driving. This Subaru block heater seems to take 2-3 times that.
