Had a Kdlinks X1 cam on a 12v adapter for 2-3 years. I bought the harwire kit and add a fuse as the same time. It sat on the shelf for 3 years. Today I just decided to give it a shot and installed it correctly up the pillar and down the mirror wire shroud. Took all of 20 mins including soldering/heatshrink the add a fuse to the hardwire kit lead.

So it was short lived. Today on the way to work the camera got hot and smelled of electric burn. The output of the box was 5v. The lipo inside of the cam went taking the cam with it. Google search says it’s common with Kdlinks X1 and other copy cats.

I went ahead and ordered a Rove R2-4K. Not top end but I will gain file transfer via WiFi to phone. I also got the bundle with a hardware kit with park function and 256gb sd.

I looked up my X1 purchase. It was 2015….older than I thought.
I took it apart and removed the bad lipo. I have lipos with pcb protection. The cam is dead and goes into a repeat boot loop. I see no other damage to pcb but I have old man eyes.

X1 is in the trash.

The Rove R2-4k seems a ton better than the X1 I had as far as picture quality, menu navigation, speed, etc. The cam came in same day on my door step. The hardwire kit and 256sd card says another week. I am running it back on the 12v adapter again. LOL. My old hardwire kit is micro usb. This cam also has a lipo for battery rather than capacitor but for $106 with this much capability over the X1 I had, Im good. I will use the old hardwire kit as a pull string to get the new one behind the dash again.

Got the new mini usb hardwire kit installed. While trying to setup parking mode, I noticed it shutting off on low battery. Turns out my impreza battery is sitting at 11.97 volts and I just finished a 25 min ride home. Looks like Walmart Everstart is in my future this week. There goes another $120.
