I have mine on the lower right corner of the windshield. I live in Chicago and we're required to have a 'city sticker' down there. I haven't had any eyesight problems, and works fine in toll booths.

Ditto in Arlington Heights (a Chicago suburb).
Don't know if it's still true, but used to be that even if your municipality
doesn't require a sticker, you'd have to buy one from the county (Cook). This is to insure that you have to pay someone
something for the privilege of having a vehicle on the road -
even if it's not driven.
Lord help you should not have a hard to remove adhesive covered piece of plastic on the lower right corner of your windshield - which has to be replaced annually - in this hard to access location (especially with today's sloped windshields); and it's not enough just to buy this income-producing piece of annoyance - you have to apply it as well.
I was given a citation for not having a current sticker (which I
had bought) in my employer's parking garage in the suburb of Maywood - even though I live in Arlington Heights. The ticket was for failure to display - not failure to purchase :frown2:.
