Yep, this should be fixed with my instructions above.

Also, if you are also not updated to XH3J2C1A ECU, have your dealer do that (complain about stuttering between 2-3K and retarded ignition timing). Otherwise, the ECU can wrongly pull timing from misinterpreting vibrations as knock, killing power.

Yes, this is fixed with my overrun table :)

With my changes, it will be "less" aggressive when cold, and more responsive when warm - but not like when it's cold where you feel like it shoots over your intended blip target.
Could you help me on updating to XH3J2C1A ECU? Can't seem to find any info on Epifan website

First off I gotta say thank you @Octal450 This information is super valuable and honestly I haven't found any other info related to our cars in this amount of detail. I do have a question, I know rev hang isn't really a thing with the CVT models but have you interacted with tuning on any yourself? I'm currently in the process of tuning my car and was hoping for some feedback on things that apply to both manual and CVT models, not looking to push power but more just quality of life stuff throttle response etc.

Hi,
Thanks so much for the positive words. I have more to come!

Yes I've done some CVT work recently. I've done remaps of the throttle calibration for linearization and some improved CVT shifting behavior. (and better power on demand behavior) You should not apply the overrun (rev-hang) fix to CVT cars.

Interesting, I'm just now starting to look at the stock maps so I would definitely be interested in figuring out the throttle calibration, cvt shifts etc there's definitely alot that can be approved haha.

@krisdaniels78 build is one of my favorites especially since I'm in the same boat when it comes to learning as I go along.

Hi!
do you happen to have a map for 2012-2016 Impreza?

looking for one for my 2014 Impreza Sport

thanks in advance

I just created an account here just to say that this is freaking amazing! Thank you so much for this masterpiece @Octal450!!!

I did this today to my 2018 Impreza (Sport Wagon 5MT) and the difference is night and day! The rev hang in that thing was so frustrating. It was way too difficult to shift up smoothly, especially first to second, and I would occasionally get honked at for accelerating too slowly at a green light. This overrun table, though, is absolutely fantastic! I don't feel like I have to wait ages for the RPM to drop even a tiny bit and the car feels sooo good to drive now. There isn't any jerkiness in the gas pedal either - this is very refined and it shows.

Also, the change in the throttle response is very subtle but very welcome! I like it!

If anyone reading this is wondering if this is legit, it is. :D

This is my first post here. First off thanks @Octal450 for documenting how to modify the ECU so clearly, it works great. I bought my car in 2021 and immediately bought the Tractrix module, dumped my firmware, sent it to epifan, did the dance with him and ultimately was able to solve the rev hang issue.

Three years go by and I take my car in for a separate issue (EGR valve replacement), and as part of that work my ECU changes were reset. That should have been a clue that my ECU had been modified by the dealer, but I assumed it was just a software change. I had saved my modified ECU file from 2021, so I assumed I could simply re-flash that file. You can see where this is going...

I tried dumping the ECU first for safety, however there is no "dump ROM" button in subaruEdit, you have to get a "key" from epifan to use that functionality. The key I had from my conversation with him in 2021 no longer worked. What I should have done at this point was email him, get a new key_opt.txt file, dump the ROM, send it to him to be made editable, make my changes to that one and reflash it.

What I actually did was just flash the old file out of impatience. That has bricked my ECU completely, I'm having it towed back to the dealer today and it's going to be a few hundred dollar mistake as I'm pretty sure they'll likely replace the whole unit.

I am a technical guy, so modifying a ROM file in a hex editor or whatever I need to do wouldn't be a problem. Is there a way I can do this all myself (modify the ROM to be editable and generate a key for the dump feature in subaruEdit)...or do I always need to have an email discussion with epifan? If I was able to do this all myself I would have avoided the situation.

Thoughts?
