Impreza vs 6 cylinder Subarus

The only number that I am sure of was that Subaru sold a total of 76,774 Tribecas. As it is extremely unlikely that Subaru will ever produce a 6 cylinder vehicle again the number sold in the past has no value to competitors.

As I understand it, the Subaru 6 cylinder engine was quite a nice piece of engineering. But presumably most people don't know that since they sold so few over the decades.
I don’t think Subaru advertised it either. I have never heard about Subaru’s 6 cylinder until recently when I started researching a lot about Subaru after getting my Impreza. Kind of a big missed opportunity.

The old saying of "People buy HP but drive torque" still holds true.

It is the horsepower numbers on the sales brochure which the buyers look for.... but it is the torque which pushes the vehicle forward with gusto.
Love this statement. I've driven both the Jeep XJ Cherokee and the YJ Wrangler, experiencing the extreme torque with those inline 6. The horsepower isn't much, but with that amount of torque, the vehicle just moves very easily.

The Impreza is pretty much the opposite. It can speed at if you push it, but the low end torque is not something to be proud of.
