We don’t know when it’ll come out or what will be under the hood of a Subaru Impreza WRX STI but, we do know that a high-performance version of the latest Impreza will eventually make an appearance and X-Tomi has come out with a rendering of what it could look like.
Based on the recently revealed 2017 Impreza four-door sedan but with design elements from the outgoing WRX STI, X-Tomi’s rendering features a large set of gold alloy wheels, rear wing, chin spoiler, what seems to be side skirts, reworked front air intakes, and a large hood vent.
An exterior update alone won’t be enough to sell an STI model, we’ll need a new engine too. Right now, the outgoing model is equipped with 2.5L Boxer engine with an output of 305 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque. Not a bad number but Subaru raised the bar with the limited-edition WRX STI S207 that was only made available to Japan. At 323hp with 318 lb-ft of torque, the S207’s 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer-four engine has substantially more power compared to the U.S. spec 305hp.
Wouldn’t it be great if the S207 engine was offered with the next Impreza WRX STI?
