Throttle unresponsive compared to cross trek

Hey guys, owner of a 2019 Impreza Premium here. I’ve been happy with the car so far, but something feels like wrong with the acceleration. I know these cars aren’t fast (I wasn’t expecting it to be), but having driven and been in a few FB20 cars, this one feels particularly slow. My parents own a 2.0 crosstrek, and they previously owned a 2.0 forester. The forester felt zippy (we don’t have it anymore), the crosstrek I drive from time to time genuinely feels leagues faster than my Impreza. As soon as I step on the gas of the crosstrek (2016 model I believe) the motor feels happy to respond. The engine is also much louder in the cabin, and generally, the car feels much more responsive compared to mine. I follow recommended dealer service intervals on the Impreza, and they’ve never found anything strange with it. Everytime I accelerate my Impreza, I feel like the thing sounds like it’s gonna explode. I’ve also got a strange knock on startup sometimes that I haven’t been able to diagnose (dealer didn’t notice anything). Is this a case of my butt dyno deceiving me? Or is there something potentially wrong with my Impreza? All of these cars have the CVT transmission.

I recently ran into a similar issue with my Impreza Hatch Base with 65k miles. Took it to the dealer for a spark plug change and had them check the throttle body too. They said there wasn't much build-up.
In relation to your original post, I was noticing my car bog-out (idles around 650-750 RPMs) and drop to ~500 RPMs which was enough to scare me thinking it'd stall. Additionally, voltage would drop from idle at 14.2v-14.5v to 12.2v-12.5v (what OBD reads when the ignition is off). They said that's normal I guess but might be worth having the throttle body checked out depending how hard you drive the car. ALSO, check your air intake filter. Could have collected dust/pollen/other debris.

Every time I drive my Impreza, the throttle is responsive and the vehicle feels peppy. It wants to scoot right along unless I deliberately be delicate on the throttle. I end up with nearly 35MPG so I must be doing something right.

Compared to my wife 2.4L Outback.... my Impreza is a rocket-ship. (Her OB feels more like an oversized, lumbering, land-yacht.)

I would suggest there is some kind of 'issue' with your Imp. There is VERY good possibility there is a problem which is not severe enough to turn on CEL.

Certainly, there are a number of simple things to check/clean so they can be eliminated as causes.

A competent tech. who is proficient with codereaders may be able to help isolate.

Beware that your 2019 Imp. has GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) which may not be the same as the other FB20 engines you are comparing to.

35MPG?! Dang! I get 22-24 if I'm being super conservative (usually 19-22 is my range). However, I do have a roofrack, lightbars, mudflaps, ditch lights, and a front push bar that would all impact aero.

I have a 2019 Impreza Sport 16K miles, manual and recently got a 2015 Crosstrek with 92+ K miles. I have to say the throttle did feel more responsive on the Crosstrek. I was able to drive the cars back to back. I was struck by how much better the Crosstrek steering felt. Both are electronic. Even with my Perrin Steering lock down and low profile tires the Crosstrek just felt better overall, less vague. I realize we are talking manual and CVT but in general the Crosstrek also felt quicker. We have a 2013 Outback CVT and that does not feel faster than my Impreza but it is a heavier car with 130K miles. This is all subjective seat of the pants.
