I've no respect for bootlickers. Government or corporation.

Numerous posts I've made on this forum, pertaining to misadvertisement of 89 octane being standard for this vehicle. A number of users here took the corporation's side over the scammed consumer's. Fact of the matter: SOA is instituting a coverup regarding 89 octane pinging. I have evidence to make this claim as 100% fact without concern of libel/slander.

SOA tried to SCAM me. I caught them and I didn't let them do it.

Many of you thought i was funny that a consumer was having a problem, treated my replies as a joke, by your emojis I could tell you were on the side of the SOA SCAMMERS and not on the side of innocent victim consumer.

No respect for the lot of you. You know who you are.

Fact of the matter: I have $4500. You have $0 and SOA's * is in your *. Too bad there's a limit to alerts history, or I'd tag you all.

For those wondering what this is about, look here: Rattle noise under light acceleration - not sure what it...

TL;DR?

Impreza is advertised for 87 octane. My car pings on 87 octane. It shouldn't ping on 87 octane because it is advertised as a 87 octane vehicle. Many people have this issue with Impreza and Crosstrek. Nobody does anything about it, except me, and I am "laughed" at for it. In this post, I return the laughs back at the bootlickers.
Dude I have the same issue with the “ping”. ESPECIALLY going uphill low rpm like you spoke of. What’s the solution? How did you make a case for this?

Lemon Law. Car had 4 visits for the issue. One visit was over 30 days. The issue was not resolved.

Took settlement for cost of difference between premium and regular for 300,000 miles. Alternately they will just buy back your car.

Realistically, sue them for 10k settle for 5k when they call you about it. Assuming you've attempted warranty repair without success.

I’m out of warranty, and do all my own work so haven’t taken it anywhere. Probably a lost cause for me :/ still owe 16 on it, just got to 100k, time to start putting 93 in it I guess lol

I had a camry with 200k+ and it never pinged on 87. I just drove a Yaris with 230k and it didn't ping.

You still have a case, its just not as clean as mine and you'll need to figure out how to present the evidence. I can offer an affidavit explaining my experience to bolster your case. Realistically they may just settle with you and you won't need to go to court or even prepare a case. I didn't have much prepared when I settled. And at worst you lose and are out $80 for the filing fees and service cost.

Interesting that this service bulletin says to change the injector needles to the new design. I wonder if your local d-ship would do that for you Subarik, since the problem persists? Maybe not worth it.

I also see that at the time of the bulletin Subaru didn't have the VIN that the new design goes into production for Imprezas. Wonder if that information is anywhere.

Did yours still detonate with 91 in it?

I'll give it a shot before my warranty ends. Try to get another cleaning, as well.

From a technical standpoint, I'd really want to know why yours does it. I don't notice it on mine with 87. I do notice some jerkiness in the trans. Moreso with Costco gas, less with Shell and BP. I had them run the CVT TSB and they asked me what brand of gas. Told them and they told me everything was fine. I do remember they had the car for a few weeks and had to keep sending logs to Subaru.

Hey, at this point I have the 10yr/100k mile warranty. If something breaks, I get it fixed and I get a loaner. I'll be at 10 years long before 100k if things keep going as they are. I don't get anyhere near the MPG that is stated unless I drive 100% highway which is almost impossible for me.

Same here. I wonder what is up with Subarik's Impreza that isn't the case with many (most?) of the Imprezas. I live at high altitude and have run 85 octane since I bought it. Never noticed any pinging or knocking whatsoever in the 84,000 miles I've put on my car.

FWIW, I'm certainly not questioning if Subarik's has pinging or arguing that. Just wondering why his is so bad and a lot of us have no pinging.

All imprezas and crosstreks are like this, I suspect. In all my dealer visits they were never able to reproduce or confirm the issue unless I drove the car on a specific road in a specific way.

I drive at low rpm with my windows down. Other drivers race to red lights, their windows up, and AC blasting. Eventually I noticed a pattern on a specific street and figured out what sort of input to give the pedal to avoid that noise. As a result I also learned what input to give to reproduce the noise.

I visited 3 dealerships for this issue. The first one was near my home and I knew a street upon which to reproduce the issue. The second one in Livermore where it was a bit harder to reproduce that there, but I eventually locked in a ping and got a confirmation, which the rep passed on to SOA, to which SOA claimed that the rep said my car worked fine (they lie). The third one, in Hayward, had the most perfect course at CSU which has a slight incline and long distance between stop signs on Harder Rd.

PS: The foreman of Hayward dealership told me that they are getting a lot of visits for pinging, so it is certainly an issue, especially considering a TSB exists about it.

But lets put it this way. My average MPG is 36. If your average MPG is not that you are not driving like me, due to personal style or due to roads, and given that the ping is dependent on two factors of pedal input and road incline you're just not in a position to trigger it, and in those times that you do trigger it your windows are up or your music is playing.

If you want to try it, find a slight incline road like this or like this or like this. Use 87 octane and lug your engine on as low RPM as you can to maintain a slight acceleration.

If you're in the Bay, bring me your car and I'll ping it for you, or perhaps I won't. Would be interested to find out. I'd take a dealer car for a test drive but I already know they fill them with 91 from my coverup investigation.

I had this exact issue, along with the car bucking and running like crap for short periods of time. I switched to 90 octane Ethanol free and the problem went away. My car runs better without the ethanol than it does if I run 91/93 in it..
