Dunno about disconnecting speakers that the original sound designers put in for a reason but I am no sound engineer. I like the HK sound, no problems with it at all.

 

The Crutchfield advisor said he just doesn’t like the way tweeters sound bouncing off the windshield. I would have done the HK upgrade if it was available for the premium trim but it isn’t. I definitely feel the standard speakers sound a bit muffled so I want to upgrade. I just wish I can find out how the tweeters are wired before I take things apart.

 

"adviser"? He is a sales person. Tons of manufacturers "bounce" the tweet off the glass.

 

Reflecting the tweeters off the windshield give a better front stage. I would just upgrade the door speakers, keep the factory tweeters and add an amp. I have Rockford Fosgates in the doors and Kickers in the dash all being pushed by an Alpine amp.

 

So u have a 4 channel amp running your door and dash speakers? Is the amp working as your crossover? How do the back speakers sound with no power?

 

That Crutchfield sales engineer sound like an idiot. Tweeters up top for sure. Ditching them and using coax speakers in the doors will create an excellent sound field for your knees and that's about it.

I just ordered a whole system that I will installing this weekend. I'll do a writeup on it per usual. It is as follows:

Rockford Fosgate component speakers with a built in high pass filter in the tweeters, so no need for an external crossover. Not sure where the factory wires split, so I didn't feel like figuring out external crossovers.

Rockford Fosgate coax speakers for the rear.

Factory head unit.

Rockford Fosgate DSR-1 DSP module so I can tune it up.

Alpine Power Pack for the four channels, piggy-backing off head unit power.

Rockford Fosgate P300-12 Powered Sub, taking signal from the DSR-1, power from the unused factory amp power plug behind the radio.

Should come together pretty nicely.

That setup seems like it would give u some more frequency range from the dash. I might like this. I’ve been trying to understand how resistance works. This would make a different ohm load on the front 4 speakers than the back 2, is that correct? Does that matter?

I’ll have to think about that. I was going to get the Polk DB+ component system but it uses a crossover and that’s why I needed to find the tweeter wire.

 

I would try it without upgrading the dash speakers first. The OEM tweeter is 7ohm, so 4 ohm speakers will play louder.

 

Most component speaker systems are 8 ohm speakers though, designed to present a 4 ohm load to the amp, so that shouldn't matter. If replacing the speakers individually, yes, 4 ohm speakers would present a 2 ohm load to the amplifier, and play "louder," if not possibly damaging the amp. Not sure if they are 2 ohm stable like many aftermarket amps.
