Yes it was pretty upsetting to say the least. I was pissed about the thought of having to return it and get another. But then it got me to thinking of a fix being that it wasn't too far off,...after swearing profusely of course.

Everything did line up with the gaps around the hood when closed, by using the rear holes/threaded inserts only, but not the front ones. If the rear ones didn't line up with gaps around the outside of the hood, it would have went back. They're lucky I made it work, otherwise they'd be paying to have it sent back to them, paying to make a new hood and paying to ship me another.

They said they are investigating the problem as I mentioned before. I don't get how they got everyone else's correct, but screwed up one.

They offered me a discount on my next purchase if I want anything else, but I don't see anything I'd want under the Subaru XV listing (as that's where the hood is listed under). If you look under Subaru Impreza, they have more parts for that, but their fitment for model years spans over two generations, which has me suspect to proper fitment issues yet again.

Also appreciate the feedback on the hole spacing on yours.

I too am a bit mod-crazy with this car within this year. Prior to coming across this forum, I didn't see much out there. Guess I didn't really look that hard. A blessing and a curse that I came across this forum. I've been modding like a mad man since. Prior to finding this site, I just had the rims. Since then, I've added everything listed in my signature...just this year. And still going. The Sport Mesh Grille just showed up today. Going to try my hand at swapping it without removing the bumper, as I have the light bar then to take off as well. I can see where to get access to the screws on the backside of the grille under the front closure panel that I removed once to get the Hella horns in there attached to the cross member. Then I may add some side skirt extension pieces like others have. They add a little bit (but not too much) styling cues. After that's done, I may take a break for the following year as it's pretty upgraded now. I'm caught up. Was thinking about the Crosstrek fender arches, but it's a bit of work and then still doesn't line up proper. And more work to get the Crosstrek bumpers to work out also. So I abandoned that thought.

I jumped on board this band wagon recently.

I was going to go with the BodyKits.com one Subaru Crosstrek STI Look Carbon Fiber Body Kit- Hood 115574 but after looking them up online there's a lot of bad reviews about their products, returns and refunds.

So then I tried Carbon Creations, (either the supplier or maker of the same hood) but they never returned phone calls or answered emails.
Not to mention the hood costs more than JSK's.

So moving onto JSK. I've emailed them about a dozen times about everything including the hood. Did a lot of homework about the company before pulling the trigger. A contact named Lucas has returned my emails usually the same day or next day depending on the time difference every time. Way better communication. If you look them up there's all kinds of social media listed on their business website (not Alibaba site) that you can scope out including a shop tour.

I had a little doubt at first. But the company looks legit. Subarus are small little toys compared to the high end cars they modify. Not as a small operation as I first thought them to be.

Anywho, just received another update the my hood is complete and they sent me a couple shots of it. Getting ready to be shipped.

The break down. No difference really in price from what others stated. The first quote to have it shipped via Sea Freight is as such: $510usd for the hood, $20 for wood packaging around the cardboard box (see photo), $550 for Sea Freight, and 2.9% for Alibaba's charge to use them, for a total of $1111.32usd. This option gets it to one of three locations across Canada of your choice. Vancouver, Toronto or Montreal. It goes to a warehouse there for you to pick up. Upon pickup there's a $150cdn charge to use that warehouse as a drop location (not sure if that includes customs charges). Neither city location worked for me so I opted out of this shipping option and went with DHL direct from JSK. With this choice, it'll go right to my house. So that cranked the cost to $1465usd. About the same cost difference as Sea Freight if I had to drive to a ferry, take a ferry off the island to Vancouver to pick it up and then return home. Also factoring in the $150 pick up fee. So it's basically even...for me, for where I live. But if you live closer to either of those three warehouse drop cities, then it'll work better gooder for you.

No big deal signing up with Alibaba either. That was my first buying experience there. No issues. Multiple ways to pay.

I didn't chat with JSK via Alibaba. I was emailing directly to their email from the website... info@jskracing.com. But they do list other chat options on their website under "Contact". Again, communication with them has been excellent. The way a business should be. On top of it.

I don't have the hood yet, So I cannot speak for anything more. Stay tuned. But if you're a fellow Canadian, these are some shared options for you with the prices, so you know what to expect thus far.

Kinda sucks that Asia has more available for our Imprezas than N.Amercia, and this is what we have to go through.

Is there a carbon hood without the hood scoop?

Is there a carbon hood without the hood scoop?
Not that I've seen. But that doesn't mean it doesn't exist, just either don't remember seeing one right now, or haven't come across one yet.
Duraflex, Carbon Creations and JSKracing all just have scooped hoods for this Impreza.
There's not much available for this gen of Impreza as it is. It may be easier to get a carbon wrap done on the hood if that's the look you'd like.
If you're doing it for weight savings, the stock hood is already really light. Weighed it myself already.

Nice job, 5Gener. Looks great! I would have been pretty upset about the hinge holes not lining up. I have a 2023 sport and the latch holes lined up just fine. I will measure the distance between the holes soon and let you know. Car is in the shop. I had to buy some more bolts like you did since they don't provide extra. I also bought the Redline hood struts but have yet to install them.

I transferred the stock heat shield using the stock grommets like Evoheyax by just drilling holes on the under side of the hood. My scoop air flow goes through 2 small holes near the back of the hood. The holes look like they were made to accommodate windshield wiper fluid jets that you transfer over from your old hood, however our cars are located at the base of the windshield and does not need to moved at all.

Whiteclaw, I spent too much money and time getting my hood the way I like it to sell. Sorry bro! I am considering getting the hood wrapped with Xpel PPF to protect the paint vs ceramic coating just the hood. I've become obsessed with modding this car for the past year but it brings me so much joy as a hobby. Just got some new rims which I will post soon on the wheels forum. Keep us posted with updates and pics, guys!
On another note, for those that have this hood, can you confirm the hinge hole spacing on your car and the model year of it? Mine is a 2017. Wondering if there is a difference in spacing between hinge bolt holes. I attached two photos. First photo is of the factory hinge bolts and the other photo is of the JSK hood hole and threaded insert placement measurement. Just wondering if they have two or more jigs for hole placement for different model years, or if they just pooched it by placing the holes and inserts in the wrong spot.

Thanks in advance for any insight. Trying to get to the bottom of the problem with JSK while the talks continue as to what happened and what they're going to do about it.

So I measured the hinge hole spacing on my stock 2023 sport hatch hood and the JSK carbon hood and they both measure just under 2.5 inches, just like your stock blue hood hinge holes. Try to get some money back or a better yet, ask them for a new hood. Doubt they will make you ship it back...

Thanks wanham for the confirmation. I'll send it along to them. Being that I made it work as is, with the holes too far apart, I'm ok with it now. I think it would be a pain to have to send it back and get another, and not know what I'm going to get the next time. My modification has held up fine, after opening and closing the hood a ridiculous amount of times just to test it out. Solid during driving as well. So I'm satisfied there. The additional plate that I added, as well as the bolts have moved any.

They did offer a discount on anything else I'd like from them, but that's not going to happen as there isn't anything I want. But they at least offered some kind of peace offering of sorts to make up for it, and have been very communicative about it all. I'll give them that. I'm sure if I wanted to refuse the hood, they would take it back. I don't think they'd be unreasonable in that regard. They seem willing to help at least. They're lucky it was an easy enough fix. It would have cost them a bunch to ship that back, make a new one and ship that one. I wonder if they would just send me a new one without sending the current one back.

They have replied yet again recently since the last time and said that they asked other customers that ordered this hood if they had issues, and they said no. So they said that my car may be a rare model. Not sure what to make of that. They're not quite following what I am saying. So I told them that the hole spacing on my car matches the spacing on others as well. Doesn't appear at this point as they think that there was an issue on their end. Multiple people ordering the same hood for the same car and yet two different hole patterns. I gave up. Good luck to the next buyer. If it ends up the same mistake as mine, at least that person can either follow what I did or return it. I tried to help JSK track down what went wrong so it wouldn't happen again. The only other variable is that this is a hood that is for the Crosstrek. I don't know if the Crosstrek has any different hole spacing than the Impreza with their model years. But even if it did, how did others get the proper spacing for their Impreza.

Anyways, I told them all that I could and tried to help all that I can. The rest is on them.

Either way the hood is solid. Took it up to 130km/h (80mph) and it doesn’t do anything funky. Not sure if it’s due to the extra support from the aftermarket hood struts. But so far it’s working fine.
I can say with the same setup, Ive had the same results. Because the carbon fiber is a separate layer from the inner thermoplastic piece, the carbon fiber can float a little. But it is in no way coming off from the car. I can say I've tested it up to 115 mph with no issues (in Mexico of course 😉)

The next update for my hood is that I finally got it painted and re-installed on the car.

Switched to the sport mesh grille also.

Thanks guys.

Leaving it all carbon would just be too much of the same tone across that span of a part. I like the extra contrast of the carbon poking through the painted portion of the hood. Makes the scoop kind of the main focal point. That's mainly why we like this hood after all. Figured I'd accentuate it.

I have a feeling now people may look at this and think that this is one of those stick-on fake scoops, being that the rest of the hood looks stock, and stock colour.

Has anyone done a heat-extraction type hood? While the scoop looks awesome, I'm not big on putting a non-function scoop on, nor am I wanting to make it functional where it's not needed. That said, I'm not really having heat issues but I kind of want a vented hood for summer use just because. So far, it looks like my only two options are a $1500+ custom CF hood (that might not fit perfectly) or taking a (used) oem hood and cutting it up for some ABS or CF vents, then painting to match the body (or wrapping it to look RICEy). I like the Vermont Sportscar rally vents, but those alone are $400+ and currently out of stock, so I'm hoping to find a cheaper alternative (or even 3d print vents/louvres myself). Just wondering if anyone has done this already so I can a better vision before starting.

Unless you're abusing the car and putting it through track use, you don't need the heat extraction, much like the 'fake' hood scoop.

If you can find generic vents or make some yourself with HomeDepot/Lowes, then that might be the most cost effective option.

Not sure what the definition of “functional” that you mention. The JSK hood is functional in the way that it has a hole through the hood and forces air into the engine bay. It’s not just a ‘dead-end’ scoop sitting on top of the hood without air access through it. A person can always rig up some kind of channel or ducting that routes to the intake air box/open air intake.

Their design forces air in, instead of the reverse that extracts heat. It will still extract heat when at a stand still. We’re lucky enough to have even THAT hood. There aren’t a major amount of modification options/suppliers with this gen of Impreza. We’re also lucky to share some body parts with the Crosstrek. If it wasn’t for that, we’d have even less mods to choose from, as some suppliers prefer to mod the Crosstrek more so than the Impreza.

The car doesn’t produce enough heat to have to extract it if that’s the main concern and reasoning for a different hood. Far from some fire breathing beast of a car.

If you want that style for cosmetic purposes, you’ll have to go with one of the routes that you mentioned.

As far as vents, if you look up TrackSpecMotorsports, they have an array of vents to make your own vented hood. I used them for a couple universal-sized vents for my Mini. Great product and material. I believe they are powder coated aluminum. Come with rivets. Easy enough to do if you have some mechanical handy knowledge of tools and such. Measures lots prior to cutting. Tape off the area to make sure that’s where you’d like it them.
