A "pressing" issue

Note that there are THREE different things that can happen when you press the volume button:
  1. 1-second press: Mutes or unmutes the audio.
  2. 4-second press: Turns the head unit (& audio) off.
  3. 10-second press: Reboots the head unit software (Nov 2017 firmware or later).

These boots are meant for driving ...

Thank you! There have been multiple times where I wish I could reboot without turning off the car and waiting.
Yep. Even works (w/o adverse consequences) while driving.

ps: My subject line is a reference to a song from the 1960s ...

I keep losing my local channel presets after the software update using a flash drive. Sometimes when I get in the car, it will say my software has been updated. How do I get my presets back for good. My "old" SiriusXM stations are still there. I did my own software updates weeks ago and have reset my local stations and even some new SXM stations, but they don't last a day.

It been great following the Imprezas as they get the update (us XVers have been much slower) and I hate to jump in about this but it's has been driving me crazy as I follow the thread.

The head unit is NOT Harmon Kardon. It and the software for it are by HK's parent company, Harmon International (owned by Samsung).
HK makes an audio upgrade package, a DSP/amp and speakers.
Oh oh.

Not to be wearing my tin-foil hat or anything, but this may explain why the CarPlay skipping issue gets so little attention.

Wouldn't you know, I thought the previous Rel2.17.43.20 firmware was doing its job, but then the screen was randomly blanking out and the USB fails to load anything again.

Had the dealership do the Rel_U0.18.22.20 update and now it keeps corrupting USB memory sticks for audio. SanDisk Cruzer 16gb, Verbatim 32Gb, and a PNY 8Gb so far. It will randomly stop playing and switch to radio, as if you pulled out the USB stick. When you try to load again, the car and the PC can't read the USB sticks anymore = FUBAR'd.

I don't need an update to graphics like a larger Vol dial on-screen, that's useless. I just need the infotainment unit to work properly.

This is key!

I haven't had the update yet (going in today), but I assume I won't have to ever worry about having to turn off my car and wait 3 minutes for Android Auto to work.

This was the one thing that scared me every time I plug my phone in. I use AA religiously when I drive.

I think I've noticed my radio presets disappearing when I do it, but I'm not sure since this was also after deleting my old phone and setting things up for my new Max :smile2:.

Presets

As I recall, the July 2018 firmware update did erase radio presets, but if you create home screen shortcuts (which you have to enable) for your favorite stations, they are not erased by the update.

Note that I encourage everyone to download (from Subaru or the link in my signature) the PDF copies of the Vehicle & Multimedia Owners Manuals, & keep them on your favorite computer/smartphone devices. It's been a year since I bought my Impreza, & I'm still learning stuff.

Just got in my car yesterday after not really driving it over the weekend. My radio presets were all erased for some reason. I hope this doesn't mean the update was a mistake...

Anyone else experience this too?
I travel a bit for work. If it sits unused for more than 4 days, all the radio presets are erased. I did make a preset on the main screen for the only station I listen to, and that has remained. I whine about this and a few of the other issues, and my son keeps telling me 'Why don't you take it back in to get the unit updated?'. I'm guessing I should do that!

Hidden method to delete presets!

I'm sure that for most people, this is a giant nuisance, but I like one aspect of it: There is no other way that I know of, to reset all radio presets. Waiting four days without driving is a bit of an annoyance ... time to dust off that bicycle ... :grin2:

Correct. Mine were replaced after the update the first time but it's been a month or more since I had the update. The system just randomly erased my presets...I'll look into creating a shortcut. Thanks

Could anyone post link or share the upgrade files? The URL I found some time ago doesn't seem to exist and Subaru seems to restrict access. Trying to avoid loosing few hours of my life going to the dealer.
8" 2018 Impreza Premium.
Also: Anyone noticed whether the upgrade fixes this issue:
While driving and listening to the radio with phone connected (Google maps not started) volume often gets lowered for a second or more as if there would be an audio prompt from the navigation - but there is none. Very annoying.
Thanks - M.
