No isn't an answer :)

I did read that post. Understand that the dealership machine wants me to humbly come in person. But in the era of Internet the files are probably somewhere - I will keep searching. >:)
Thanks though. M.

Well... don’t know what happened but I go in for a software update and come out with a blown speaker. Thank goodness for warranties!
Geeze that's pretty extreme. I wonder what the technician did to cause that.

I don't disagree but, even as an Ambassador, they locked us out of obtaining the updates off the Subaru Tech website. I wish you luck but don't hold your breathe!

Could anyone post link or share the upgrade files? The URL I found some time ago doesn't seem to exist and Subaru seems to restrict access. Trying to avoid loosing few hours of my life going to the dealer.
8" 2018 Impreza Premium.
Also: Anyone noticed whether the upgrade fixes this issue:
While driving and listening to the radio with phone connected (Google maps not started) volume often gets lowered for a second or more as if there would be an audio prompt from the navigation - but there is none. Very annoying.
Thanks - M.
Is there a pop when the volume changes? AM or FM? When I listen to AM, the volume intermittently will get lower. There is usually a pop or snap sound that happens when it does. This only happens for AM and is mentioned as an issue solved with the new update. I don't have the update either, so I can't confirm if they solved it.

No pop. I never listened to AM but will try for completeness. It really looks like the partially muted volume when one is using GPS navigation and the GPS has something to say.
I can see that the dealer will blame it on exactly my phone being connected at that time. I am using Android but will try with Apple too. And will play audio from USB as well - just to get the full picture.

From what I have read Subaru does not want customers to update or mess with the infotainment system OS.
Not a surprise. More dealership revenue stream. And if the system isn't robust enough by design (and other indications may suggest that) then poorly performed upgrade (wrong version, interrupted in process...) may mess things up. Not a task for a Joe Doe. But Silicon Valley Jose Doe may be able to tackle it ;-)
So I totally understand that Subaru doesn't want to give the files freely but that won't stop me from searching and updating myself if I can :wink2:

I went in yesterday to the dealership where I purchased my car, for my 2nd oil change. I thought that I would get the firmware update as my HU doesn't turn off and it's really annoying to start the car in the garage and get hit with loud static as you're backing out the car. Other than the inability to shut off the radio and keep it off until I want it on, the HU is working well. When I told the customer service individual that I wanted the firmware update to be able to shut off the radio, she told me that Subaru has no fix for this and has no intention to fix it despite numerous complaints about the car-start radio-start situation. I was taken aback by her apparent ignorance and explained that I had read on a Subaru Forum that there is a fix and and newer update to fix it....she insisted that I was wrong and I should not believe what I read on "those forums" so I ended up leaving without the update. I phoned her when I got home and emailed the info provided here about the July service bulletin....I'm waiting for a reply. So, what to make of this!!! Very annoying.

I guess I am a bit surprised that you just left without receiving the update. I would have asked to speak with the Service Manager or the GM. This is well documented and there is a TSB on the subject that is easy for any Subaru dealership to find.

Before I left, she called over the mechanic who backed her up....I also, you might say was making a bit of a scene, and all the other service people could easily hear my complaint....to no effect. It is quite surprising that a dealership who admits it's a problem insists there is no fix when there is. Unless someone just doesn't want to be bothered doing the updates.

I received this prompt email from Subaru about the situation after I explained what was going on with the dealership....I haven't called the dealer back as of yet....I could go to another location, thinking about it.

Hello xxxxxxx:

Thank you for your message.

There is an update for the audio system in your 2018 Impreza for it automatically playing whenever you start your Impreza. It is covered in TSB 15-211-17R.

Here are the details of the change:
With current version: The head unit power is turned OFF by pressing the Power/Volume knob for 4 or more seconds. On the next ignition ON, the display remains OFF/black while the audio begins playing automatically.

With new version: The head unit power is turned OFF by pressing the Power/Volume knob for 4 or more seconds. On the next ignition ON, the display remains OFF/black and the audio will also be OFF until the Power/Volume knob is pressed to turn the head unit back ON.

I sent a message to Walter, the Service Manager at xxxxxxx Subaru to make sure that all representatives are aware of this latest audio update.

Please give them a call to set an appointment. When set, please let me know when it is. I can then follow-up again with Walter to make sure all is good for your appointment.

Sincerely,

John J. Mergen

You do NOT have the latest update based on the mentioned TSB. 2.17.43.20 is an old software version and should be updated by your dealer. This TSB has been out since late July.
